The weekend during which I gained 15 pounds and all the teeth rotted out of my mouth
Aurora came to visit this weekend and I had fun, as I always seem to when she's around, but holy balls. My health is not thanking me and, for once, it's not my liver that's crying out for help.
On Saturday evening, I had a fantasically greasy meal, complete with one delicious beer, at Green Mill with Aurora and Brian. Then we headed up the hill to UMD for an Attitudes show. Man, I felt like a VIP, because I was with a local dance celebrity. Aurora presided over this club, imparting her wisdom and skills upon many of these young ladies, for two whole years. I felt comfortable shooting people the "yeah bitch, I'm with her and I can tell you're jealous because you know she OWNS this shit" look all evening. The dancing was entertaining. I just wish Aurora had given the girls lessons on being sexy during her tenure as president, because their attempts were futile. Added bonus: I got to see the famed Weber Hall of All Things Musical, Including Dance Performances. You've outdone yourself yet again, UMD.
We had big hopes for the evening, but our hopes were quickly dashed when we realized that we would not have the opportunity to get Aurora's mom drunk after all. That was all Brian needed to hear to decide that he no longer wanted to go out. Poor Brian. Had I been in his position, I would have kicked us out way before 11:30. Having to work at 8am on a Sunday is obscene.
By the time we left Brian's, neither Aurora or I had the ambition to go out. The goal for the evening was to find somewhere "chill" to hang out. What's more chill than Lucky Apartment 13, right? Nothing. But, you know what makes it even more chill? Ice cream and soft white cookies with blue frosting and sprinkles. And a pudder.
On Sunday, we burned some of our sweet-tooth calories with a leisurely walk to Leif Erickson park and back. I would have been feeling pretty good about myself by the time we got home, had it not been for the mass quantities of Mexican food and the chocolate-covered-rice-krispie-bar-on-a-stick that I purchased along the way. I just now ate the rice krispie concoction, by the way. It was delicious, though so hefty that I'm going to have to force myself to throw up tonight, in order to make room for the rest of the cookies.
Sunday in general knocked the wind out of my sails. I could not wait to go to bed, but when I got there...sleep eluded me. I tossed and turned, adjusted the degree of window openness, threw my clothes and bed linens on the floor and stomped on them in a hissy fit of frustration.
By about 4am, I decided that attending work this morning was not an option. By 5:30am, I decided to spend the day in Tower instead. I can't remember the last time I felt homesick, but I think Red's blog and accompanying array of flickr delights did it for me.
I'm so happy I made the trip up there. The temps in Tower today reached the upper sixties/lower seventies. An absolutely perfect day. The high in downtown Duluth today? Forty-eight degrees. I love you Duluth, but sometimes you just need to bite me.
So, I took Mom to lunch at Good Ol' Days, stopped to play with Brody and Audrey, ran around outside with Lucy, took a ride up to the shack, ate some delicious venison. Tomorrow, it's back to the grind whether or I like it or not (the latter, for the record). On the bright side, this just became a three-day week for me. Goodness gracious, for a brief moment it felt like Blue Cross all over again.
There are some new, mostly boring, pictures on flickr. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to include them in this post and/or link to them. Luckily, you know where to find them. I love that about you.
