Autuuuuumn!

Fall is in the air and for that, you can thank me. The very day that I packed ninety-five percent of my long-sleeved apparel, the temperature dropped twenty degrees and the leaves started changing. I'm cold and loving every minute of it!

There's something about this time of the year that makes all the bad in my life seem to go away.

I can sleep with the windows open! One of life's little pleasures, indeed.

I can walk to the mailbox without sweating like a whore in church. I don't care if most women glow rather than sweat. I sweat....and I hate it.

Today, at work, I even noticed that I was less fed up than usual with the bitchy old finance hags...and, somehow, they smelled fabulous. Thanks, fall.

Fall even makes the new job and upcoming move far less stressful. Sure, Duluth is old, and nobody posts pictures of their one-bedroom apartments, and the descriptions are far from descriptive, and it's a one hundred seventy mile drive to pee in a cup. You know what though? Duluth has Lake Superior...and there is NOWHERE I'd rather be on a cool, sunny, fall day than Lake Superior. I take comfort in the fact that if my new job makes me want to slit my wrists, I can just go to the lake! To bike! Or walk! Or flirt with men who have cute dogs! I'm giddy!

After work today, I was walking to my car, truly wishing I'd parked further away, and thinking about how natural it seems to be moving to Duluth in two weeks. I mean, for four consecutive Septembers not all that long ago, I packed up my all my crap and hauled it to that very town. But this time, no homework. No tests to study for. Being a grown-up isn't all bad.

Sure, I often wish that I'd chosen to become a kindergarten teacher rather than an accountant, but guess what? When I'm snowsuit clad, running Baywatch-style down the shore of Lake Superior in 25-degree heat, none of that is going to matter.

I'm going home.
