Later December 16, 2008
Dear Dad,
This note isn’t going to be a sad one. There are just a couple of things I needed you to know.
First of all, your death has aged Mom 15 years in the hour it took to get her hair cut (and smoke, because I sure don’t believe a hair cut takes an hour). Also, have I ever mentioned that my biggest hang-up in the English language is whether the period goes inside or outside the parentheses? It’s true.
Second, all three of the dogs and one kitchen chair fell down the stairs today. At the same time. Don’t worry, Lucy is fine. She limped for a minute but got over it quickly. Unfortunately, the chair sustained a little damage. It’s still functional, just a little gouge out of the side. It adds character. Whenever we see somebody glance at it, we’ll be sure to explain the circumstances. All in all, I think you would have found the situation humorous.
I believe I just heard Mom accuse us of “making up” the slow loris, like it’s not a real animal. Seriously? Thanks for the intelligence, Dad. I’ve never doubted we got it from you.
Okay, quick sad. I talked to John today, expecting him to be the type to tell me to buck up and hold my shit together, and he cried as hard as I did. Eff! Tomorrow is going to be hard.
More later, gator.
Love,
Angie
